A RETIRED avionics technician died after being involved in a two vehicle collision near Northop, an inquest opening has heard.
Sergeant Michael James Terrence Clancy, 74, of Dodds Drive in Connah’s Quay, was born in Nenagh in Tipperary County, Ireland, and spent time serving in the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers.
John Gittins, Coroner of north Wales, (east and central), told the opening how Sgt Clancy had been driving from Connah’s Quay to Northop on September 30 when his Chevrolet Matiz was involved in a collision with a Toyota Hilux at around 6pm.
Despite an air ambulance attending the scene, Sgt Clancy was transferred by road to the Royal Stoke Hospital where he died of his injuries on October 7.
Mr Gittins added there was no need for a post mortem to be carried out, but the cause of death was deferred until a full inquest is held next year.
