YOUNGSTERS who know their Pi from their percentages are being invited to enter a mathematics competition.

Returning for a tenth year, the Explore Learning Mathematicians' Awards is looking for teams from primary and secondary schools across the country to enter.

Some top prizes are up for grabs including the latest in mathematics and engineering Meccano as well as the chance to meet University Challenge legend Bobby Seagull.

The competition is free to enter and features two rounds, the first of which is a never-seen-before maths problem.

The grand final takes place at the Natural History Museum on Wednesday, February 5.

Charlotte Gater, head of curriculum at Explore Learning, said: “Maths is everywhere; you can find it in a musical masterpiece, in a work of art and all across the natural world.

"Our competition celebrates the magic that maths can bring – and the enjoyment that children can get out of it when they try their hardest.

"This is an awesome opportunity for pupils to show off their mathematical prowess, to build on their teamwork and problem-solving skills and for schools to celebrate their talented young students."

The team challenge round will be held across on January 15 and 16.
