Young farmers from Powys' three federations have scaled three of the county's highest peaks to raise money for mental health charities.

Members from across Radnor, Brecknock and Montgomery met on a very foggy and wet morning to climb the highest peak in each federation, starting at Llanrhaeadr ym Mochnant to climb Cadair Berwyn, this was followed by Great Rhos, in Radnor, and finally in glorious sunshine, Pen y Fan, in Brecknock.

YFC members from across the three federations rose to the challenge and raised £5,847.03 for the DPJ Foundation and £3113.03 for Mind Cymru, an amazing combined total £8,600.06.

Suzanne Kendrick, who helped with the organisation of the Radnor route also made a presentation of £1,100 to the DPJ Foundation in memory of her husband Philip Kendrick. Radnor YFC would like to thank all the members, local businesses who supported the event and all the many people who donated money to help these vitally important charities.

County Times:

The fund raising bid was suggested by the Radnor federation, which, prompted by the concerns of its members and along with the inspirational, Emma Picton-Jones from the DPJ Foundation, began a programme of training and awareness to enable members to understand and raise awareness of mental health issues within their clubs and local rural communities.

Radnor YFC, county chairman AJ Powell, then began a series of ‘Walk and Talk’ groups which encouraged members to increase physical activity and provided a different type social interaction, this inspired the members of Radnor to approach the neighbouring federations and the idea of the 'Three Feds' taking on the highest peaks in each county to raise money to support two mental health charities which work in each county, the DPJ Foundation and Mind Cymru, was born.
