SCHOOL pupils are on their way to London thanks to their efforts in creating a green environment.

Caereinion High School pupils Elin Astbury and Imogen Gilmore will be visiting the Houses of Parliament in Westminster as the school has won an International Green Apple Environment Award.

These awards are part of a campaign to find the greenest companies, business and institutions, and the Caereinion pupils succeeded by showing they had created a sustainable school and sustainable community.

The Caereinion pupils were up against more than 500 other nominations and will be presented with their trophy and certificate at a glittering ceremony in Westminster on November 25.

Headteacher Philip Jones said: “We are very pleased and very proud to have been nominated.

“To have been chosen as among the best from 500 other nominations shows what an achievement it is.”

As a result of this International Green Apple award success, they have been invited to achieve Green World Ambassador status and have their winning paper published in The Green Book (the leading international work of reference on environmental best practice) so that others around the world can follow their lead and learn from their achievement.
