The Hafren Hedging Society is to stage the 60th All Wales Ploughing and Hedging Championships on September 21 at Gwernygo Farm, Sarn, near Newtown (SY16 4EP).

It marks the 10th anniversary of the last time this event was hosted in Montgomeryshire, taking place at the same site, on the A489 between Churchstoke and Sarn by kind permission of Mr and Mrs Edward Gethin.

Classes for ploughing are the same as previous All Wales matches - a total of 10 classes for tractors, including Semi-digger World Style, Semi-digger Classic class 1960-1976, Vintage Trailer ploughing, Vintage hydraulic ploughing, High-Cut and the very popular Ferguson TE20 tractor and plough class. Two classes of horse ploughing are featured, High Cut and General Purpose, described as a "wonderfully colourful class to watch".

A Hafren Hedging Society spokesperson added: "We will also be enjoying the Hedging and Wire Fencing classes demonstrating traditional skills in hedge-laying and wire stock-fencing techniques. In addition to ploughing and hedging activities there will be plenty to enjoy for all the family, with a vintage vehicle display including tractors, stationary engines, agricultural machinery, a working vintage tractor display, demonstration plots, trade stands and food stalls, everything you'd look forward to for a grand day out."
