A LLANDRINDOD Wells councillor has now officially resigned from Powys County Council, with a by-election in the Llandrindod North ward being triggered.
Gary Price formally resigned on Thursday, August 29, after 15 years as a Powys County Councillor. This follows his resignation from Llandrindod Wells Town Council on August 12, were he served as a town councillor for 19 years and was mayor in 2010/11.
Mr Price said: “Changes in my personal circumstances see me moving out of Llandrindod Wells and Powys have meant that I do not meet the qualifying criteria set by the Electoral Commission and therefore it is with a heavy heart that I have resigned from both Llandrindod Wells Town Council and Powys County Council.
“It has been a huge honour and privilege to have represented both the Llandrindod Wells East/West and North Ward’s for just over 19 years and to have at each election the continued support of the voters.
“I have always endeavoured to undertake my public service duties to the best of my ability by always putting my constituents before any political beliefs and have strived to represent everyone.”
Cllr Price added: “I wish to thank those staff within the local authority that I have worked with during my time as a councillor and have written and thanked them each personally. I must also thank fellow Llandrindod Wells town councillors including our excellent and dedicated clerk for the hard work they do and will miss them all dearly. Finally, it’s been a pleasure to have been an LEA Governor at Ysgol Trefonnen were I was a former pupil, to have served on the Brecon & Radnorshire Sports Partnership and Sport Powys Community Chest, Llandrindod Wells YMCA board of Trustees and wish theses bodies the the very best in promoting and supporting our talent youngsters.”
Whatever ones view of Gary, his excursions into party politics, his robust & sometimes combative style, he always read his papers, always made time for people & always put his electors first. We were elected to @PowysCC on the same day in June 2004. I for one will miss him #Gary https://t.co/KLmqMvkPgV
