ON average, one farm worker dies each year as a result of contact with an overhead powerline.

SP Energy Networks will be empowering visitors with knowledge at the Llanfair Caereinion Show on Saturday, August 31, by sharing tips for farmers and other agricultural workers on how to stay safe when working near live electricity cables.

A team from the electricity network operator for North Wales will be at the show on to provide information and answer questions around staying safe when working near overhead lines or underground cables and what to do in the event of a fallen cable.

Electrical incidents on farms can include anything from operating machinery or equipment too close to power lines, to live cables falling on the ground.

Stephen Stewart, SP Manweb director, said: “We are committed to supporting people in Mid Wales. The Llanfair Caereinion Show gives us an opportunity to get out into the community and share important safety advice.

“In the event of a power line falling on your land, we would advise taking extreme caution. Power lines can remain live, even if they appear unaffected, so it’s essential to keep people and livestock away then contact SP Energy Networks on our 105 emergency hotline number.”
