An Oswestry community charity group launched its 'WasteNotWantNot' scheme on Friday.

OsNosh, run by brothers Ben and Tom Wilson, has been collecting surplus food from supermarkets around Oswestry and Welshpool and sold them from the Memorial Hall at lower prices.

Tom admitted the pair are hoping the venture can grow over the coming months, allowing for more surplus food to be collected and given to those in need of it.

"We had people come in and had a cup of tea or a coffee, and then paid for a tray of food," he said.

"It was a basic price but we're really pleased because we've sold them all.

"This is the first one we've done and it's been a big success.

"We hope that it just keeps growing and growing, then we'll have to get more drivers and all of this of produce was from local suppliers, so anyone who wants to donate can do so.

"We had a good mix of people coming to buy the food, but we would like to see more families who's kids are off school over the weeks and are nearer the breadline.

"But that's not to say it's going to act like a foodbank – we do want to see more from all kinds of people.

"We hope that it can be more of a living room space for people to come along to, and an area for kids."
