More than 200 people attended this year’s Llanfyllin Show President’s Lunch at Bodfach Park.

President Janet Jones, of Parc, Llanfyllin, said it was a very successful and enjoyable event and there was a marvellous atmosphere with so many friends and families celebrating 150 years since the first show, from grandparents to babies.

She thanked everybody that attended, including Barry Jones who brought with him two pieces of family history relating to the show.

Mr Jones, accompanied by wife, Vera and cousin Judith Williams, showed the president a gold watch presented to their grandfather, Edward Jones, for being chief steward at the show for a number of years. The presentation was made in 1926.

Barry, whose family lived at Penllwyn Farm until the Dugdale family estate was sold, also brought with him a tankard that was presented to the Dugdale estate for wins at the show in 1890 and then given to the Jones family.

The tankard will be included in a special display of memorabilia and artefacts at the show to mark the event’s 150th anniversary on Saturday, August 10.

Barry's father, Cecil Jones, was also chief steward at the show from 1938 until 1955. He was also bailiff at the Penllwyn Estate during that period.

The president spoke about the show’s history, the commitment of families over many generations and how things, including modes of transport to the show, had changed over the last 150 years.

In 1903, there were special trains from Oswestry in the morning and returning in the evening.

She thanked everybody for their commitment to the show over the years, chairman Dyfrig Jones and secretary Jill Hollinshead for co-ordinating the lunch and Simon and Maggie Baynes for allowing the event to be held in such a beautiful setting at Bodfach Park.
