A NEW British shearing record could be set at a farm near Builth Wells this weekend.

Brecknock YFC is attempting to break the nine-hour four stand lamb shearing record at Blaenbwch Farm, Maesmynis, by kind permission of Rob Powell and family to raise money for five charities and local causes.

Four members of Brecknock YFC will take part in the event which will begin on Friday, August 9, at 6am with nine hours of shearing and breaks in between, finishing 12 hours later at 6pm.

The four chosen shearers are Lloyd Rees, of Llandefalle YFC; George Gilbert, also of Llandefalle YFC; Aled Jones, of Troedrhiwdalar YFC and Hugh Prothero, of Libanus YFC.

Money raised from the event will be shared between the MS Society, Prostate Cancer UK, Wales Air Ambulance, The DPJ Foundation and Brecknock YFC.

The event will be live-streamed on Facebook as well as being open to the general public, who are then invited to stay on to celebrate with a bar, grand raffle and auction in the evening. An Over-16s only After Party dance hosted by Brecknock YFC will be held at Blaenbwch Farm, on Friday, August 9, from 9pm to 2am, following the four shearers’ record attempt.

Organisers say it is “promising to be a packed day of entertainment”.
