THE life of a famous young hymn writer from Dolwar Fach will be celebrated at a special event in Pontrobert.
The Ann Griffiths Memorial Day will be marked with a series of talks and performances at Hen Gapel John Hughes on Saturday, August 17.
Internationally-renowned folk singer Siân James will perform hymns written by Ann Griffiths to folk tunes in an evening concert to be held at 7.30pm.
The event begins at 2pm when chapel custodian Nia Rhosier will give a talk about the restoration work on the Grade II* building, followed by a presentation by Linda Gittins about the acclaimed musical ‘Ann!’ by Cwmni Theatr Maldwyn from 2003.
There will also be a chance to watch a film about Ann Griffiths’ life after the talks.
Money raised from the event will go towards the mammoth fundraising appeal of £80,000 to fix the chapel’s leaking roof.
The roof is in such poor condition that buckets have been placed to collect rainwater leaking over many years. Damp problems are putting the historic books and artifacts at risk of damage.
n Concert tickets, costing £10 each, are available to buy from the Hen Gapel John Hughes Committee.
