TELEVISION star and debut author Konnie Huq was in town on Tuesday to launch her debut novel Cookie and the Most Annoying Boy in the World.

The book tells the tale of Cookie, who loses her best friend to a house move to Solihull and then meets her mortal enemy, a boy who buys the kitty she has set her heart on and then he moved in next to her.

The book event at the Lion Quays Hotel was organised in conjunction with Booka Bookshop, in Church Street, and Konnie spoke to a packed room of kids and adults who all admitted to knowing someone ‘really annoying’.

Konnie, who rose to fame as host of the BBC’s flagship children’s show Blue Peter, held an interactive session with the youngsters, offering them maths problems and games, hoping to show that Cookie is an everyday girl.

The event is the latest visit by top authors and personalities brought to the town by Booka, with two more lined up in August and September.

On Wednesday, August 21, historical author Philippa Gregory will be at the Lion Quays at 7.30pm while Gyles Brandreth – former MP, One Show reporter, Just A Minute star, and author – will be at the hotel on Thursday, September 26 from 7.30pm.
