A SCHEME to build homes at a former factory site in Knighton could be finalised over a dozen years after outline planning permission was given to it.

Willowridge International have submitted a reserved matters planning application to Powys County Council for 18 homes to be built at a former factory site on West Street

This means, planning officers and possibly the planning committee will need to think about how the access, appearance, landscaping, layout and scale for the development will need to be finalised.

At the moment, according to the design and access statement by Coombes:Everitt:Architects: “The application is for the provision of 18 modest, family homes.”

They would be:

Six – two bedroomed houses,

Nine – three bedroomed houses

Three – two bedroomed apartments.

Space for two cars has been given to each house and one and a half spaces for the apartments.

Coombes:Everitt continue: “The site is situated close to the centre of Knighton and it’s amenities.

“The site is to the north of the town’s conservation area , the boundary of which is on the is to the southern side of the street opposite the proposed development.

“To the east and north of the site is the Offa’s Dyke visitor centre, park and trail.

“From the highway all the proposed units have the appearance of two storey buildings under 40 degree pitched roofs.

“The houses are arranged around a single new access road that enters the site from West Street at the point of the former factory entrance.”

The agents add: “We believe the proposals represent an appropriate form of development in this location.

“The proposals are of an appropriate scale and mass, provide an aesthetic that complements and respects the location and the residential amenity of existing neighbours”

“We trust the local planning authority can support this application.”

Outline plans had originally been approved in 2007.

This was extended in 2012, as well as in 2015 and 2018.
