Townspeople and visitors alike enjoyed a “best ever” Machynlleth Carnival at the weekend.

As the carnival procession, led by Samba Agogo Band, got underway hundreds of people lined the streets to witness the most creative, colourful parade to date, helped by this year’s ‘Open’ theme to celebrate 50 years of the revival of the town carnival. Committee member Davina Roberts said the day had been a gigantic success. She said: “It was brilliant, the support shown today and indeed throughout the week’s activities has been phenomenal. It is the Carnival of Mid Wales. Which other town carnival has a ‘wedding’ and ‘Music on the Clock’ from 10.30am? – it makes our little town so unique. The walkers and floats were just awesome and people are already putting their heads together for ideas and costumes for next year’s carnival which will be held on Saturday, July 25, 2020.”

Celebrations at the carnival field at Y Plas grounds was compered by Pamela Vaughan with thanks given to various individuals, organisations and businesses. Highlight of the afternoon was the incredible performance of ‘Entertainer’ by Paul Dark.
