Chris Davies, the former Conservative MP for Brecon and Radnorshire, failed to win back his seat at yesterday's by-election.
Speaking after the loss in the early of the morning, Mr Davies wished Jane Dodds well for the future; who won the seat with a majority of 1,425 votes.
He thanked his team and his family for their support over the last few months during what has been a "difficult time". "They've been by side every step of the way," he said.
The by-election was called after Chris Davies was ousted from his seat from a recall petition, which 19% of voters in his constituency signed, well above the 10% threshold. The recall petition was triggered after Mr Davies was convicted of submitting false expenses claims. He stood again for for re-election and was selected to stand again by his local Conservative Party.
"What a privilege it has been to serve the people of Brecon and Radnorshire as their MP for a number of years," he said.
Mr Davies first became the MP for Brecon and Radnorshire in 2015.
