The Leader of the Welsh Liberal Democrats, Jane Dodds, has been elected as MP for Brecon and Radnorshire, leaving the Conservatives with a majority of just one in parliament.

The Welsh Liberal Democrats leader recieved 13,826 votes, with the Conservative Party's Chris Davies, who was fighting to keep his seat after being ousted by a recall petition, recieving 12,401.

The recall petition was launched after Mr Davies was convicted for submitting false expenses claims. However, he decided to stand again for election and was reselected by his local Conservative group.

There was some confusion at the Royal Welsh Showground in Builth Wells, where the count took place, as the results of the main candidates were only read out in Welsh.

In her speech, Ms Dodds said that it was a "enormous privilege" to have been voted in.

Speaking of the time the Lib Dems won the seat back before, she said: "We've done it again".

She said that she had been "incredibly humbled" by the support she has received.
