TWO members of Berriew YFC had the honour of meeting British and Zulu royalty at the 100th Royal Welsh Show.

Sian Emberton and Jess Wilson met The Duchess of Cornwall and Queen Pumi during a visit to the Young Farmers Club area of the showground.

Sian said: “I didn’t expect it! It was definitely amazing to meet them both. It was a great honour. Jess and I were very lucky to represent Berriew YFC.

“Camilla seemed very interested in our display and all the bits especially a handmade owl which was made from scratch.”

Representing Montgomeryshire’s smallest young farmers club of only 12 members at their first ever Royal Welsh Show competition were Elgan Jarman and Llewelyn Jerman, of Llanbrynmair and Carno YFC. The 13-year-olds were rearing to go dressed as a troll and goat from the nursery story Three Billy Goats Gruff in the blindfolded obstacle race at the Cattle Ring.

Radnor YFC took second place in the competition dressed as the Mad Hatter and Cheshire Cat from Alice in Wonderland. Elinor Hulin-Taylor and Rebecca Williams from Edw Valley YFC said they were “very excited and proud” to represent their county at the 100th Royal Welsh Show. Brecknock YFC took third place in the same competition.

Over at the YFC Stage the atmosphere was electric as Montgomeryshire YFC danced their way to victory with a brilliant performance. Aberhafesp YFC, who was representing the north Powys county, were rewarded for the best dance routine in Wales for 2019.
