A GRADE II* listed house and its grounds was the setting for a summer fair which took place near Llanfyllin over the weekend.

Bryngwyn Hall in Bwlch-y-Cibau, was the idyllic location overlooking a lake that played host to the event, which saw nearly 1,000 visitors over Saturday and Sunday.

Lady Linlithgow who lives in the house, and who's family has owned the estate for 210 years was happy to open the gates to the public at the place she says is "very much a family home."

She said: "We're doing this to help raise funds for the WI and for the Christ Church Bwlch-y-Cibau, as well as to go towards ongoing costs in maintaining the house and its grounds for people to continue to enjoy it.

"We want to welcome people in as it's not usually open to the public.

"It's to bring locals in and to enhance the community – but people have been coming from further afield to visit too."

Visitors could shop at the many stalls selling crafts, food and drink and clothes, while listening to entertainment from jazz musicians.

There was also wood carving, guided tours of the gardens including the 'poison garden', children's activities and a dog show.

Emma Langford, communications and events planner at Bryngwyn Hall, said: "This is the first dog show this year and it's being held on the croquet lawn.

"It's an idyllic venue for it, overlooking the beautiful lake.

"This year it's just a really fun dog show... I'm sure if we do it again it will become more serious."
