Chirk Youth Football Club continued its success of last season into the summer as they hosted their annual club tournament earlier this month.

With plenty of sunshine during the day, there was more reason to celebrate for the players and parents across the age groups as the Chirk youngsters yet again went home with plenty of silverware.

Competing against teams from Shropshire, Wrexham and Cheshire, the age groups from as young as seven up to 11 years of age battled out for the trophies and medals up for grabs.

Chirk under-7s put in some great performances to take home the runners-up spot in their tournament.

The U8s side followed suit and reached the final and prevailed to take home the winner’s trophy.

Highlight of the day however came for the U11s sides.

Entering two Chirk Youth sides at the same age group saw an all-Chirk final, with Chirk U11s facing Chirk U11s.

This isn’t the first time the club has taken home silverware this season, after the U8s and U11s were successful at this year’s Airbus tournament.

It was a great year for the U14s side too, as they dominated their age group to win the league and league cup double.

The success is made even sweeter for the youngsters, as Chirk Youth is celebrating 25 years since its formation.

Club chairman Mark Evans was very pleased with how the event went, and wished to make clear his appreciation of all involved in making the day a success.

He said: “It really was a magnificent day for everyone from the parents and helpers to the players for both Chirk teams and visiting clubs.

“I would like to give a big thanks to those who helped us out with refereeing, organising and making refreshments for those in attendance.”

He gave a special mention to coaches David Rogers and Jason Williams, joint U8s managers, and fundraising chairman Joanne Williams.
