Llanfair Caereinion will celebrate 100 years since Deri Woods was gifted to the community in September.

In the run-up to the milestone event, Llanfair Caereinion Town Council will hold a meeting for residents to discuss plans to celebrate the centenary on Monday, July 15, at The Institute.

The community woodland, which covers an area of about six hectares (14.43 acres), was gifted to the community in 1919.

The woodland is maintained for residents, visitors and wildlife through a partnership between the town council and the Montgomeryshire Wildlife Trust.

The partnership works within the community and with local schools, youth and scout groups through projects that are funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund.

The Trust will hold centenary celebrations at the woodland with volunteer-led guided tours, story-telling, woodcraft, art activities and Taliesin treasure hunt challenges on Saturday, September 14.
