Llandrindod Wells Town Council has presented over £12,000 in grants to support groups within the community and local events and initiatives.

During its monthly full council meeting, on Tuesday, June 18, Mayor, Cllr Steve Deeks D’Silva presented the funds to the eight organisations.

“The Town Council had great pleasure in welcoming the recipients of annual grant funding to the meeting,” it said in a statement.

The Albert Hall received the largest amount of funding out of all of the groups: £4,000. Sharon Hammond, from the town’s Victorian theatre, accepted the cheque.

Llandrindod Wells Carnival, which will take place this weekend, on Saturday, July 6, received £1,500 in funding.

Cllr D’Silva is pictured presenting the cheque to Michael Gough, chairman of the Llandrindod Wells Carnival Committee, who together with his wife, Barbra Gough, represent Llandrindod Round Table and Ladies’ Circle, which together organise the annual event.

The Llandrindod Children’s Eisteddfod was given a grant of £260. Emily O’Connell collected the cheque at the meeting on behalf of the event. The Children’s Eisteddfod will take place on Saturday, October 12, and showcases the young talent of children in Llandrindod and the surrounding areas.

The Grand Pavilion, a community interest company, received the second largest grant: £3,000. The cheque was collected by Helen Edwards.

A cheque of £1,000 was given to the Victorian Festival, which has been struggling financially and is expected to cut back the scale of the event this August, collected by Denise and Chris Hartley. The Town Council has also given £2,500 to fund the Firework Display at the end of the Victorian Festival.

The Silver Band was given £1,200, presented to Darcey Morgan and Tim Mann.

The Twinning Association received £1,000, which was collected by Ed Coady and lastly, the Welsh Bowling Association was given £250 for its local tournaments.
