THE Banwy community will have the honour of hosting the 199th Eisteddfod Powys when it returns exactly 70 years since it was first held in the valley.

It will be the seventh time that the Eisteddfod has visited the area. The two-day cultural extravaganza will see a number of high standard entries competing for prizes in competitions such as folk dancing, poetry recitation, arts and crafts, singing and much more.

Organisers said that “with such a strong cultural tradition, it is no wonder that we are eagerly looking forward to welcoming competitors from all over Wales to the Banwy Valley.”

The festival of Welsh culture will be held at Canolfan y Banw, Llangadfan’s community centre, on Friday, July 12, and Saturday, July 13.

Powys’ finest poets, writers and musicians will be honoured at the seventh Eisteddfod Powys hosted by Dyffryn Banw. The Crowning Ceremony will take place at 7pm on Friday at the community centre, as will the Chairing Ceremony on Saturday at 3pm.

Last year Karina Wyn Dafis, from Llanbrynmair, became the first person to win the chair and crown at the same Eisteddfod.
