A MAN stole his ex-girlfriend’s earrings, worth over £600, and sold them to a trader at Glanhafren Market Hall in Newtown, a court heard.

Michael David Charles Griffiths, 25, of Park Street, Newtown, appeared at Welshpool Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday for two offences: stealing jewellery and breaching his supervision requirements by missing three appointments. He admitted both of the offences.

Ceri Ellis-Jones, prosecuting, said that the case was domestic and that Griffiths was in a relationship with the complainant.

Griffiths entered his ex-girlfriend’s address and went upstairs to collect his jacket, the court heard.

However, when the woman went upstairs she noticed that three pairs of earrings were missing, which are worth approximately £670, Mrs Ellis-Jones told magistrates.

She then went to the market hall in Newtown and spoke to one of the stall holders who “confirmed he had sold the earrings to him”, the court heard.

Welshpool magistrates head that Griffiths has five previous theft offences on his record, from between 2013 and 2015.

Magistrates adjourned the case until next Tuesday, July 2.
