Brecon and Radnorshire MP, Chris Davies' political rivals have been expressing their delight after he lost his seat.

The Conservative politician discovered a recall petition had been successful on Friday, June 21, following a count held at County Hall, Llandrindod Wells.

A by-election will now be held in the constituency after 10,005 people called for him to be removed from his post, above the 10 per cent threshold required.

The number signing the petition represents 19 per cent of the electorate.

The recall petition was triggered following Mr Davies' conviction for falsifying expenses claims earlier this year.

Jane Dodds, the Welsh Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Candidate in Brecon and Radnorshire, said: “Thousands of residents across Brecon and Radnorshire have taken the chance to demand better than a Westminster politics that fails to take their concerns seriously.

“Now we have a golden opportunity to do things differently. The clear choice in this by-election is between the Conservatives, whose chaos and infighting is letting our communities down, and a better future for our area with the Welsh Lib Dems.”

The Brexit Party's, David Rowlands AM added: "Nineteen per cent of electors in Brecon and Radnor have signed the petition to see Chris Davies recalled. That is a loud and clear message that those electors want trustworthy politicians.

"Our movement has shown the politicians who is boss - the people of this country. We will be fielding a strong local candidate, and will be fighting not only to deliver Brexit, but also on local issues."
