THE rain did not stop the fun at Llanfair Caereinion Carnival as Del Boy and Rodney, Margaret Thatcher, Madonna, ET and many more brought back the 1980s to town for the annual summer extravaganza.

Organisers have praised another ‘triffic’ event and thanked all involved for their imagination, humour and hard work into their costumes and floats.

Carnival Queen Fiona Gittins-Coulson gave a gracious speech to open the carnival, following the float parade and arrival at Llanfair Light Railway with her eight attendants.

Nicola Peate, chair of the Carnival committee, said: “For all those who dressed up, made costumes, decorated or drove floats, put up bunting, helped us decorate or drove the Carnival Queen’s Float, who performed on the field, who had stalls, who donated prizes, bought tickets, opened the Institute to us; who helped us put marquees up or take them down in the rain or who took part in any way, we thank you! We could not do it without you!

“We hope everyone had a great time and are already planning your floats for next year. The Carnival Committee is already booking some sunshine for next year.”
