A FORMER opera singing nurse from Llanidloes has celebrated her 100th birthday with friends and family.
Gwyneth Jarman marked the occasion at Maes-y-Wennol Care Home on June 3 and received a special card from The Queen.
“The celebration were very good,” her brother Eric Jervis, 94, said.
“She had been looking forward to it and seized the day despite having a cough!”
A nurse in Llanidloes, Llandrindod Wells and Oswestry for a good number of years, Gwyneth was a talented singer who used to perform in opera productions in the area.
She sang in Llandrindod Wells, Newtown and Llanidloes over the years and had competed as a ‘veteran soloists’ up until her 80s, with some success.
Another special visitor was the Mayor of Llanidloes, Cllr Janet Crisp, who brought a card and her best wishes to Gwyneth on behalf of the Town Council.
Cllr Crisp said: “She’s a lovely, chatty lady. It’s nice to recognise somebody reaching the grand age of 100. Llanidloes seems to generate people achieving this great age!
“This is what I love about being mayor, being able to meet people who make Llanidloes great.”
