Cllr David Selby, the newly elected Mayor of Newtown, joined the volunteers at the Newtown Community Café at the Methodist Church, Back Lane on Wednesday, June 12.

Newtown Community Cafe, an initiative started by town churches, started in October to support people from the community who might benefit from regular access to a meal and a welcoming social environment, as well as the need to address the problem of surplus food from stores.

"This is a wonderful community effort to supply hot mails to those who may not have access to them every week," he said

"Using donated food from shops and businesses in the town they provide a variety of meals every Wednesday. It is a great opportunity not only for a meal but for people to meet and enjoy the company and chat that the café provides."

The Newtown Community Cafe is open at the Methodist Church on Back lane on Wednesdays from 11am. If you’d like to know more or get involved call organiser Andrew Bond on 07745598593.
