A YOUNG Montgomeryshire woman says she’s looking forward to getting involved in as many community events as she can after being named Miss Powys 2019.

Newtown’s Hayley Lawson missed out on being named Miss Wales at the final held in Newport last month, but bagged the “Spirit of Miss Wales” award after generously sponsoring another competitor to enable her to take part.

The grand final was held at the Riverfront Theatre in Newport where competitors spent the day rehearsing the three stage rounds, which included a welsh flag dress opening round, a red dress round and an evening gown round, before individual interviews with the judges where they could find out more about competitors lives, beliefs and hopes for the future.

Entrants then took to the stage for the final itself when judges chose the regional winners and Miss Wales 2019.

“I am extremely excited and honoured to have been announced as Miss Powys 2019 and to be able to represent my county at both the finals and now for the rest of the year too,” said Hayley.

“It was an incredible moment receiving my new title from Miss Wales 2018 Bethany Harris on the Riverfront stage!

“A huge congratulations also to our new Miss Wales 2019 Gabriella Jukes who was a very worthy winner and will definitely do an amazing job representing Wales throughout the year and at the Miss World finals later this year in Thailand.

“I am very eager to get involved and help with any events, appearances or special occasions that may be happening in the community.

“If anyone would like to contact me with regards to this you can email me at haylee.l@outlook.com,” she added.
