A DRUNKEN Machynlleth man damaged a TV and coffee table after they were gifted to his girlfriend by her father, a court heard.

The woman’s father cleaned up the house because he didn’t want other family members to see what had happened.

Bradley Murray, 25, of Penegoes, Machynlleth, admitted criminal damage to property on April 30 when appearing at Welshpool Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday.

Helen Tench, prosecuting, told magistrates that Darren Harris was assisting his daughter in moving to a new house and provided items to her.

His daughter’s partner, Murray, then damaged the property, which included items he had bought for her, Ms Tench said.

Mr Harris said the damage made him “feel sick”, the prosecution told the court.

He repaired and replaced the damaged items himself, Ms Tench said as he did not want other members of the family to see.

There was body cam footage recorded by police officers showing the damage, magistrates heard.

The defendant said “I lost my temper” to police, the prosecution said.

Ms Tench said Murray started drinking on the afternoon of April 19.

“I went a bit mad,” Murray said.

“I didn’t punch anything I was just kicking things around,” he added.

He said he would pay for the TV and coffee table but denies the rest of the damage, Ms Tench said.

Ms Tench also said that Murray had damaged other parts of the house, including a door and a door frame. However, Murray, defending himself, said he only threw a glass on the floor and kicked a dog bowl.

Magistrates fined Murray £325 and ordered him to pay £630 in compensation; £249 for the TV, £200 and £180 for the disposal of the items and clean-up.

Together with court costs and victim surcharge totalled £1,072.
