The Oswestry Knife Angel, which is on a tour of cities around the UK, has taken 'pride' of place during its stay in Birmingham.

The Angel is currently on display in the second city's Victoria Square until next week but it was lit up in the rainbow colours of Pride at last weekend's huge event celebrating LGBT.

Declared the biggest event in its 22-year history, the 2019 Birmingham Pride parade took place over the past Bank Holiday weekend and saw more than 100,000 plus in attendance.

The Pride Parade began its journey in Victoria Square, through the town centre and ended in the Gay Village, meaning the Angel took centre stage and was celebrated by every Pride attendee.

A spokesman said: "Having the Angel feature so prominently within Birmingham Pride 2019 has been a truly honourable experience for everyone involved in its creation.

"With so many people attending Pride over the weekend, we hope that the Angel’s voice was heard loud and clear and we hope that our efforts will continue to turn the tide on violent behaviour across the UK.

"Combining the efforts of all 43 British police constabularies, the Home Office, anti-violence groups, families of victims and ourselves, the Knife Angel was designed to fly the flag for all walks of life, cultures and communities.

"Recognised as the National Monument Against Violence and Aggression, the Angel represents so much more than just our nation’s intolerance to knife-related crime – it also encapsulates and highlights the importance of standing up against all acts of violence and all demonstrations of aggressive behaviours."
