Steve Kaye has been re-elected as the mayor of Welshpool Town Council for the fourth year running.

“I’d just like to say thank you very much. It will be my forth year sat on the chair.

“I am very proud to be part of our great team. Thank you very much for your support. I’m very very honoured,” Cllr Kaye told the council.

Councillors voted for Cllr Kaye to be re-elected at the town council’s annual general meeting on Wednesday, May 29.

The begin with, councillors made up to three nominations on a voting slip. A number of councillors were nominated, but it was only councillors Steve Kaye and Hazel Evans who wished to put their names forward.

The 15 councillors then voted between the two and Cllr Kaye was elected once again.

The newly-elected deputy mayor is Councillor David Senior.

The position of deputy mayor was previously vacant following the resignation of Heather Chave.

Seven councillors were nominated by fellow members to become deputy mayor, and four of those put themselves up for the position: councillors Alison Davies, David Senior, Carol Robinson and Folkert Veenstra.

Cllr Veensta dropped off the list in the first round of voting, and Cll Robinson in the second. The councillors then voted between Cllr Senior and Cllr Davies, with Cllr Senior being elected.

The mayor, Clly Kaye, then presented the Chain of Office to the newly elected deputy mayor.
