The Heart of Wales Brewery, situated behind the Neuadd Arms Hotel in the centre of Llanwrtyd Wells, has for a number of years been brewing a real ale in collaboration with the Wales Air Ambulance.

Following an approach by the charity, brewer Lindsay Ketteringham devised a delicious chestnut red/brown brew which he called ‘Big Red Chopper’, and the brewery agreed to donate 10p to the charity for every pint of beer sold.

The first brew was produced in 2012, the same year that Heart of Wales Brewery was voted CAMRA Champion Brewers of Wales, and since that point there have been an amazing 13,500 pints sold.

County Times:

Lindsay and his wife Catherine were delighted to hand over a cheque for £1,350 to Tina and Ian Ford, the local Air Ambulance representatives. Also present was resident John Crompton, who has done more than his fair share towards boosting the sales total.

Big Red Chopper is currently only available at the Neuadd Arms, but Lindsay and Catherine are hoping that when other pubs in Mid Wales become aware of the ale and the cause it supports they will rally round and help boost the funds raised by selling it in their bars.
