It HAS been a busy few weeks for Oswestry Olympians runners, culminating in a successful evening at Attingham Park Relays.

A fantastic showing for the Olympians team saw 19 teams and 57 runners overall representing the Oswestry club.

Located near the village of Atcham, the National Trust-owned park welcomed runners from Shropshire and beyond to compete in the popular event.

Teams running together consisted of three members each who individually had to run a leg of two miles each around the course.

It was a successful afternoon all-round for the Olympians, with teams taking the top spot in several categories.

Olympians members Mike Kirk, Viv Mcconnell and Steve Roberts were successful in the masters category, taking first place in the masters mixed teams race.

Olympians youngsters running in the junior team race also tasted success after they too claimed first – Bethan Jones, Evan Roberts and Anna Rothera ran well to secure the position and take another win for the Oswestry team.

There was more success in the male team race, with Oli Blake, Peter Butler Jones and Tom Heard also finishing first.

The senior ladies’ team came close to making it a fourth first place finish for the team as Lou Woolcock, Paula Reynols and Georgie Chetwood finished third in their race.

Oli claimed the fastest individual male while Bethan was the fastest individual junior over the course of the event.

Meanwhile, Olympians runners also took part in the Christleton 5k road race on Friday.

Simon Barkley was the highest-placing Olympians runner at the event, finishing 81st overall and taking eighth place in his category and setting a new personal best.

Steve Roberts finished first in his category (Men’s 65s). Overall, Tim Tansley finished 131st, Dave Newton placed 213th and Yvonne Hill finished 341st.
