CHILDREN from a school near Oswestry are doing their bit to save the planet.

Members of Whittington Primary School's Eco Council are currently collecting plastic bottles as part of the their latest eco project.

The aim of collecting the bottles is to use them to construct a greenhouse in the school's garden. The greenhouse will then be used by the children to grow fruit and veg.

Year four teacher, Helena Parrot, said: "We need to collect around 1500 bottles, so we've got a long way to go yet.

"The project will boost the understanding of reusing and recycling, as well as growing vegetables."

Teaching assistant, Danielle Martin, said: "We've got around 200 hundred bottles at the moment. We want to make it a community project, because we've got a lovely garden and volunteers who help out."
