A Welshpool woman has warned people to take care around cattle in Powis Castle Park after she said she was attacked by a "very feisty" cow.

Jennifer Hutton was making her way to a performance at Powis Castle, on Saturday, May 4, when the incident happened. "The cow charged at me and pinned me against the wall," she said.

The 66-year-old, who was walking alone on the path from the town centre to the castle, said she was left with cracked ribs and bruising.

"I didn't do anything. I didn't have a dog. I wasn't wearing bright colours. It just came at me," she said.

Mrs Hutton said she was freed from the young female cow when two other cows intervened and she "managed to get away".

Mrs Hutton reported what happened to the police. A spokesperson from Dyfed Powys Police said: "Police received a report that a woman had been attacked by a bullock while walking on the footpath between Welshpool High Street and Powis Castle on Saturday, May 6.

"At around 1pm, a woman claimed she was pinned against a wall by a bullock, sustaining rib injuries. She reported being saved by two other bullocks, who intervened and freed her.

"As the incident does not constitute a criminal offence, police cannot investigate, but the Powys Rural Crime Team has been made aware."

Mrs Hutton said that she has concerns for people's safety, particularly as families walk along the path through the park, and wants to "inform people" of what happened to her. However, she said the path is "useful for the people of Welshpool" and does not want to see it closed.

A spokesperson from Powis Estate, who own the land, said: "Public safety is number one on our agenda. We do everything we can to help the people of Welshpool enjoy our public access, entirely voluntarily on our part."
