CCTV is now being set up across Llandrindod Wells as part of an election pledge to the residents of Dyfed-Powys.

The ‘state of the art’ cameras are located at HSBC Bank on Middleton Street, opposite the train station on Waterloo Road and outside McCartney’s on the junction of Temple Street and Station Crescent.

Their installation is part of the Dyfed-Powys Police and Crime Commissioner, Dafydd Llywelyn’s key election pledge to reinvest in a public-space CCTV system. Over 120 cameras are being installed in 17 towns across the police force area of Pembrokeshire, Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion and Powys.

Llandrindod Wells is the final town in Dyfed-Powys to get the CCTV up and running.

Police and Crime Commissioner Dafydd Llywelyn said: “I am confident the cameras will prove to be a valuable asset in keeping the town safe and assisting with the detection of crime.”

His vision is to deliver CCTV across the four counties according to demand, crime, anti-social behaviour and calls for service. This will include a staffing model to monitor cameras in order to keep communities safe, utilising modern technology and software to deliver a system that is future-proofed and supports operational policing.

Mr Llywelyn said: “This is a significant investment that provides Dyfed-Powys Police with a modern, efficient and operationally effective CCTV capability. This not only helps with monitoring crime hotspots, but helps ensure that justice is delivered swiftly and fairly.”

The cameras have smart detection features, ultra high definition video recording, optical and digital zoom lenses and infrared technology.

The cameras will be monitored and recorded centrally in police headquarters.

Powys Commander, Supt Jon Cummins, said: “I welcome the installation of the new CCTV cameras. I am sure their presence will go some way to making people feel safer in their community and hopefully also deter others from committing crime.”

The work to reintroduce CCTV across the force is being delivered by a dedicated CCTV Project Team within Dyfed-Powys Police which is working with contractors Baydale Control Systems. The hi-tech cameras are being supplied by Hikvision UK & Ireland.
