THE former owner of an Oswestry pub has revealed why the establishment closed just days after opening.

The Bell Inn, in Church Street was taken over by new landlords in early April, but had closed again before the end of the month.

The pub had previously been closed for over 12 months, following of the departure of the previous landlords in early 2018.

Landlady Julie Holloway took over with the aim of building the pub into the ideal place to watch sport. But delays in having Sky installed left the pub in the lurch and a decision was made to close.

Julie said: "The locals wanted it open, but once opened, they'd just walk past. Sky failed to install, after we waited on site for two days, even our area manager gave them grief. It's a sports pub, but without the sport!

"The pub needed Sky. We paid up front for installation and they let us down. Was no point in re-scheduling as not many football matches left.

"You would have to lose a significant amount of money, for trade to pick up.

"We weren't forced to close. It just didn't trade and we decided it wasn't for us."
