Radnor YFC, along with Carmarthenshire, was the joint overall winner of the Wales YFC Field Day held at the Pembrokeshire Agriculture Showground in Haverfordwest.

The event was was hosted by the Pembrokeshire Federation and sponsored by the Pembrokeshire Agricultural Society which provided the venue on April 27, as well as many local businesses who provided their stock and machinery for the competitions.

Throughout the day members from all parts of Wales competed in various competitions with close links to the agriculture industry and countryside skills, and showing skills including fencing, stockjudging and sheepdog trials.

As well as competing throughout the day, the winner of the BVD Marketing Challenge was announced in partnership with Allflex. A very successful marketing campaign was presented to raise awareness of BVD amongst Welsh Farmers, and the judges were delighted by the high standard of competition.

As a result of the good work created the judges decided to award prizes to three clubs for their efforts and presented a £500 award to Caerwedros YFC from Ceredigion, Bro Ddyfi YFC from Montgomery and Maendy YFC from Glamorgan. The three videos are now online to promote the BVD Campaign.

There was also excitement amongst the members as Wales YFC in Partnership with Menter Moch Cymru revealed an exciting new Pig Finishing Competition for the forthcoming year. Entries are invited from any members who are interested in finishing their own pigs. As part of the initiative members will receive five pigs, training and support on how to finish and prepare them to be shown at the Winter Fair in Builth Wells.

Elen Williams, Wales YFC chairman of competitions committee said: “We had a very successful Field Day once again this year and despite Storm Hannah and the weather’s best attempts had a successful day. This is an important day in our competitions calendar as it introduces new activities and gives the members new experiences as well as developing their key rural skills for example fencing and farm safety with machinery.
