The closure of a Montgomeryshire GP surgery is set to be approved at a meeting of Powys Teaching Health Board next week.

A consultation on the future of the Glantwymyn surgery is set to deliver it's recommendations at a meeting on Wednesday, May 8, with the panel expected to rubber stamp the closure of the premises.

Last November Dyfi Valley Health, the provider of GP Primary Care Services for around 7,000 people in north west Powys, submitted a formal application to Powys Teaching Health Board(PTHB) to merge their services onto their Forge Road premises in Machynlleth and close their Cemmaes Road surgery.

Over 1,000 responses have been received to the consultation process, which has been underway since February and closed at the end of March, which sought the views of patients concerned about the closure.

According to the summary report, chief concerns amongst patients were transport, collection of prescriptions and parking at the new site.

A statement from Powys Teaching Health Board said: "We would like to thank everyone who took the time to respond, including by attending the meetings and drop-ins that took place during the consultation period.

"A period of detailed analysis has been taking place, allowing conscientious consideration of the feedback we received.

"The findings from the consultation were presented to a special panel meeting on 18 April, alongside a presentation from the Dyfi Valley Health team. The panel ensured full and detailed scrutiny and challenge of the application from the practice and of the consultation findings.

"Based on this scrutiny the panel is recommending to the Heath Board that the application from Dyfi Valley Health to merge their services onto their Forge Road premises in Machynlleth and close their premises at Cemmaes Road is accepted.

"The panel recognised the strong feelings within local communities and the impact this recommendation would have."

The panel will deliver their findings at Y Plas, Machynlleth at 10am on Wednesday, May 8.

The public are invited to attend and PTHB say they will be allowed to ask questions provided they have raised a written request to do so at least three days prior to the meeting.
