INTERNATIONAL harpist Ieuan Jones and guitarist Gary Ryan will be in concert at Gregynog Hall, Tregynon, this Sunday afternoon, April 28.

It follows this Saturday’s Gregynog Young Musician 2019 Competition at which Ieuan will be the main judge.

The competition ends with the finals concert at 7pm, with tickets costing £15.

Sunday’s concert at 2.30pm will be raising funds for the Rekindle charity. Tickets cost £15 and the concert will be followed by tea and cakes.

Ieuan, originally from Meifod, is Professor of Harp at the Royal College of Music in London where Gary Ryan is also the deputy head of strings.

Their collaboration was first conceived by Ieuan for the 80th birthday concert of the legendary harpist Marisa Robles at the Royal College in 2016.

The programme will include the first performance in Wales of 'Suite Polonico', a work written by Andre Talisman for Segovia and Zabaleta, two of the greatest players of the guitar and harp.

It will also include another Welsh first with Ridrigo’s 'Fantasia par un Gentihombre' accompanied by harp, together with other beautiful pieces performed together and individually, ending with a famous Welsh piece arranged for harp and guitar by Ieuan.

Ieuan is known the world over for his innovative and original programmes while Gary is also a well known guitar soloist worldwide, only the fourth person to be awarded a Fellowship of the Royal College of Music in recognition of his contribution to the instrument, at the age of 27 in 1996.
