POLICE enquiries are ongoing after an incident at Sainsbury’s in Oswestry on Monday.
West Mercia Police were called to the store in Black Gate Street with reports of a suspected shoplifter.
A man was detained by security at the shop before escaping before the police arrived.
A spokesman for West Mercia Police said: “We received a call at 2.20pm.
“Security at the Oswestry Sainsbury’s store had attempted to detain a man on suspicion of shoplifting.
“He made threats to the security before making away.
“Enquiries are still ongoing.”
A spokesman for Sainsbury’s said: “We can confirm an incident took place at our Oswestry store on Monday, and we’re supporting the police with their investigation.”
