A TENSE psychological study of guilt and obsession is presented by Newtown Amateur Dramatic Society (NADS) in ‘Dead Guilty’ which starts its week-long run on Monday, April 29, at the Powys Theatre, in Canal Road.

Curtain up is at 7.45pm each night through to Saturday, May 4.

‘Dead Guilty’ is written by the respected playwright Richard Harris, author of ‘Outside Edge’ and ‘Stepping Out’, one-act plays including ‘Visiting Hour’ and much television work including ‘The Avengers’.

This play concerns an attractive young graphic artist Julia, played by Karen McMurdo, whose leg is badly injured in a car crash that occurred when a business associate suffered a fatal heart attack at the wheel.

Housebound and depressed, Julia is tormented when things disappear, a Mexican orange blossom materialises in her Victorian terrace garden and someone prowls upstairs at night.

While a kindly counsellor contends with Julia’s suicidal tendencies and a besotted handyman helps around the house, the excessively solicitous widow invades Julia’s life.

Suspense builds and anxiety turns to fear as the play reaches its chilling conclusion.

Directed by David Morgan, the other cast members are Emma Edmunds as Anne, Gareth John as Gary, Pam Edwards as Margaret and Brian Davies and Paul Martin as the voices of the coroners.

The production brings the company’s season to a end and tickets priced at £8 are available from the Oriel Davies Gallery in Newtown or by calling 01686 623463 or 07767 360372.
