A Range Rover stolen from Cheltenham Racecourse was being used to supply drugs around Newtown, police have said.

Police in Newtown arrested a 45-year-old man on suspicion of theft and handling stolen goods on Monday, April 8.

The driver of the stolen £49,000 vehicle was found driving without insurance or a licence.

A Dyfed-Powys Police spokesperson said: "He has been released under investigation pending further police enquiries.”

Police also revealed that the SUV was stolen from the famous Gloucestershire horse race track in March.

The Land Rover Range Rover was cloned and used to supply drugs in Mid Wales which police say is linked to County Lines.

County Lines is the method of supplying class A drugs, mainly crack cocaine and heroin, from cities into rural towns and communities.

In a tweet, Newtown Roads Policing Unit said: “Good work by 333/34/609/724, a 49k Range Rover stolen from Cheltenham race course in March was cloned and used around Newtown to supply drugs. Driver had no licence or insurance. #CountyLines"
