A NEW series of five musical events is being launched at St Cynon’s Church, at Tregynon, with the first concert on Tuesday, April 16.

The acclaimed chamber choir Quindici will present a programme of Music For Holy Week, starting at 7.30pm.

The St Cynon’s Music Series will continue with an outdoor picnic concert by the popular band Ffonic on Sunday, June 9, at 3pm; and the summer event on Saturday, July 13, will be Bro Hafren Choir, the charming children’s choir conducted by Ann Evans.

September’s event will be an organ recital by local organist Aeron Preston at 3pm on September 1, and the Series will conclude with a lecture on Friday, October 18, by Dr Rhian Davies on the Belgian refugee musicians of the First World War.

Membership of the series costs just £20 per individual, £30 per family/couple, and will give free admission to the five events. Individual tickets to each event will be £5.

“After an extensive programme of refurbishment to our tower and vestry last year, we have installed an indoor toilet and kitchen area, and we, as the church committee, wanted to promote our facilities and to use the building for the benefit of the community,” said church secretary Suzanne Edwards.

So we have planned two concerts, an outdoor picnic gig, a recital and a lecture this year to be held in the beautiful, ancient village church.”
