LLANIDLOES High School says it is “thrilled” to be asked to trial the Bags of Confidence project which was launched by local volunteers to tackle hygiene poverty in Powys’ schools.

The town’s secondary school is taking part by placing bags of donated toiletries, such as deodorant, toothbrushes and paste, soap, shampoo, shower gel, around the building as well as sanitary towels in toilet cubicles.

Catrin Taylor, deputy head, says the project has made a difference with pupils volunteering to replenish the donation boxes.

She said: “The school believes that pupils will start asking for more products once the project is embedded in school life.

“These sanitary towels need replenishing on a daily basis showing that there was a genuine need for them.”

The school has thanked The Friends of Llanidloes High School for donating the distinctive bags to hold the toiletries.

Zoe Brandon, of Bags of Confidence, said: “I am proud to say Ysgol Uwchradd Llanidloes High School really stand by their GOFAL motto ‘to care’.

She added: “To have helped facilitate access to Bags of Confidence and to support our young people is very rewarding.”
