The skatepark in Llandrindod Wells has been closed due to health and safety concerns after work to the ramp left it like a "cheese grater".

Llandrindod Wells Town Council said: "It has been brought to the attention of the town council that the skate ramp should not be used due to health and safety concerns.

"These have now been checked out and the town council agreed at its meeting held on Tuesday, April 2, to close off the skate ramp for the foreseeable future.

"The council is now seeking professional advice on bringing this ramp up to standard and will be requesting quotes for replacing the transition surface.

"This may take some time as proper procedures with regards to health and safety and tendering will need to adhered to."

The ramp was fenced off on Thursday, April 4.

County Councillor Jonathon Williams spoke out about the issue after receiving a message from a "concerned skateboarder" about work carried out at the ramp.

Cllr Williams said: "It seems rather than stripping the metal sheets off and replacing the rotten boards underneath, they have just screwed down the sheets over the rotting wood and painted the top with some sort of textured paint unevenly.

"The youngsters told me it was just put on over the mud that was on there and because of the surface it now acts as a cheese grater when they fall off.

"Also they showed me the screws or rivets that have already come out because the rotten wood is acting as a spring and pulls them out.

"Very sad to see this, it's like putting a sticky plaster on a broken leg. Sad that no one listened to the people actually using it, they just want something safe and usable. About time money was being spent on what's wanted and needed."
