Mid and West Wales Assembly Member Joyce Watson AM has visited the recently improved cardiac and respiratory and cardiac ward at Bronglais Hospital, Aberystwyth.

The new Dyfi Ward – formerly Iorwerth, which historically managed patients with cardiac and respiratory conditions – underwent a series of improvement works then reopened last December.

Dyfi East now has a newly-modelled Non Invasive Ventilation (NIV) area for patients with complex respiratory conditions, and Dyfi West has modernised cardiac monitoring equipment for its patients.

The ward staff work as a single team, allowing them to exchange skills in the management of two distinct patient groups. The ward was redecorated with dementia-friendly colours.

Hazel Davies, Bronglais Hospital General Manager, showed Mrs Watson around the reopened ward, where she met staff and patients.

Mid and West Wales Assembly Member Mrs Watson said:“These improvements will benefit patients from across Mid Wales, and I was pleased to hear first-hand from our hard-working and dedicated NHS staff.”
