Llanidloes High School has revealed its plans to build a new state-of-the-art support facility for its most vulnerable pupils.

An application was submitted to Powys County Council’s planning department on March 14 seeking permission to change a caretaker’s flat on the school site to educational use.

The flat at Trigfan, which is above the canteen’s kitchen, was last used in 2005. The school is seeking permission to convert the first floor into a new Pupil Support ‘Cymorth’ Centre.

The secondary school would like to convert three bedrooms into a life skills room, social room, and office. According to plans by Llanidloes-based Charles Cowen Architects, the dining room, kitchen and bathroom will remain in the same location but the living room will be converted into a classroom.

The £40,000 project will cater for the needs of the school’s most vulnerable learners and those with specific learning needs.

Llanidloes County Councillor Gareth Morgan has given the school his full backing towards the project. He said: “I strongly support this application. It makes common sense.”

The application will be considered by Powys County Council’s planning department.
