The auction of former Councillor Ann Holloway’s properties was a huge success at Welshpool Town Hall last Friday.

The room was packed and the properties sold for more than expected.

Jim Mason, partner at Harry Ray & Company who ran the auction, said: “It went extremely well and was well attended. I was delighted with the amount of people who showed up. It exceeded expectations.”

Three properties belonging to the town’s former mayor and county councillor, who died in 2016, were put under the hammer, with two selling above their guide price.

Hill Crest on Westwood Park, a three bedroom detached house, sold for £99,000, and had a guide price of between £100,000 and £120,000.

A terraced two bedroom house, 12 Lledan Terrace, sold for £71,000, but had a lower guide price of between £60,000 and £70,000.

And the house next door to it, in need of renovation, 13 Lledan Terrace, sold for £67,000. This property also had a lower guide price, of between £40,000 and £50,000.

Mr Mason said: “For this kind of property the market is very strong. There was very keen bidding on all of the lots,” he said.

In fact, the auction was so successful that it is creating an appetite for more properties to be put under the hammer.

Mr Mason said there has been an influx, and now another property auction will take place at the end of May; “partly because of the success of this one”.
