HAVING seen friends and family suffer from dementia, Melissa and Christabel, who work at the Figure & Face beauty salon, decided to run the Manchester Marathon in aid of Dementia Friendly Welshpool.

Owner Melissa Turnbull and therapist Christabel Owen are both keen runners and were planning to take on the challenge of the marathon, on Sunday, April 7.

“As we were already doing it, we thought we might as well raise some money as well,” Christabel said.

“Dementia Welshpool was the obvious charity of choice, with many people in the local community struggling with dementia.

“It’s something which often comes in conversation at the salon, with customers talking about the difficulties their relatives with dementia face,” they said.

“This is a charity close to both our hearts and we wanted to support a Welshpool charity,” Melissa said.

“We wanted to do something for Welshpool,” Christabel added.

They said that with bigger charities, it is often not clear exactly where your money is going. But with local charitable organisations such as Dementia Friendly Welshpool, you know the money is staying within your community, they said.

“The money will go directly to Welshpool,” Christabel said.

Melissa and Christabel have already raised almost £800, from donations made in their salon and online on their fundraising page.
